The modular kitchen revolution has transformed cooking spaces across Indian homes. Here's everything you need to know to plan yours.

The kitchen is the heart of every Indian home. A well-designed modular kitchen combines efficiency, storage intelligence, and aesthetic quality in a space that is used intensively every day.

Choosing the Right Layout

The five standard kitchen layouts โ€” L-shaped, U-shaped, parallel, straight, and island โ€” each suit different room sizes and cooking habits. For most Indian homes, the L-shaped or U-shaped layout optimises workflow and storage. An island works beautifully in open-plan spaces when the footprint allows.

Material Selection

Cabinet shutters are typically available in laminate, acrylic, PU-painted MDF, veneer, or membrane-pressed finishes. For Indian cooking โ€” which generates significant steam and splatter โ€” we recommend acrylic or PU-painted options for their durability and ease of cleaning.

Storage Planning

Indian kitchens store a tremendous variety of goods โ€” spices, lentils, oils, cookware, appliances. Plan storage in detail before finalising layouts: pull-out drawers for base cabinets, wall units with shutter profiles that reach the ceiling, and dedicated zones for the refrigerator, microwave, and other appliances.

Countertop Options

Granite remains the most popular countertop material in India for good reason: it is heat-resistant, scratch-resistant, durable, and available in beautiful natural patterns. Quartz engineered stone offers a more consistent aesthetic and is completely non-porous. Both perform excellently in Indian cooking environments.

Lighting

Kitchen lighting needs three layers: ambient ceiling lighting, task lighting under wall cabinets, and accent lighting inside glass-door cabinets. LED strips under wall cabinets are a practical and aesthetic upgrade that transforms cooking experience.
